TurboDirect S.A began in the early 1990's as an automotive performance based service provider, importing products to support the local racing industry in South Africa. Our customer requirements soon expanded into other market sectors including OE in passenger vehicle, commercial vehicle, mining and agricultural applications. Today TurboDirect S.A hold all the OEM turbocharger distribution agencies. Brands that we import and distribute include Borgwarner, IHI, Mitsubishi, Continental, Holset and Garrett.
TurboDirect S.A have in-house repair solutions for all makes and model turbochargers — our direct import strengths from the OEM manufacturers allow us to repair to 100% OEM specifications, something no-one else in S.A can do. We are also the first and only S.A turbocharger designer and manufacturer, holding a patent for our carbon/Kevlar compressor housing design, with more to come.
Our core business is the import and distribution of original OEM brand turbochargers — Garrett, BorgWarner (KKK & Schwitzer), Mitsubishi, Holset, IHI and Continental — and the repair components in support of the South African market and neighbouring territories. We provide brand new originals, CHRA core replacements, and a complete range of repair parts to passenger vehicle, commercial trucking, agricultural, earth-moving, mining, plant hire and performance/racing.
We are the only officially appointed distributor that holds agencies for all OEM turbocharger brands under one roof, and the only turbocharger company in South Africa with its own in-house metallurgical laboratory — offering forensic investigative services for any turbo, mechanical failure or micro/macro material evaluation.
TurboDirect S.A was formed by its current CEO and major shareholder Chris Kambouris, who brought Garrett by Honeywell to South African shores in 2005 with a joint venture with Autozone, then acquired the master distributorship directly with Honeywell and built the brand to where it is today. Expansion to BorgWarner, IHI, Mitsubishi, Holset and Continental has made TurboDirect S.A the most comprehensive turbo business in Africa.
Kambouris graduated as an electronic engineer in 1995, is a certified fixed-wing pilot holding three current aviation licenses, and is the inventor behind our patented Carbon/Kevlar compressor housing.
